Bayside Area (Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Area)

Against Yokohama’s distinctive backdrop of the sea and the port, the Bayside Area is the focal point for Y150 celebrations. In the evening, the area is enlivened with lavish night shows and illumination.

1. Y150 Hajimarinomori (Forest of Beginnings) (Shinko District Block 8)

This location will focus on Y150 events that symbolize the future of “Creative City Yokohama” based on the theme of Yokohama as an historical and creative city.

The French spectacle art group La Machine brings their street theater to Japan for the first time! The streets of Yokohama are the stage for an amazing spectacle performed by mammoth ‘living machines’, moving art forms approximately 12-meters tall! The main event of the Y150 celebrations, this dynamic performance involves the streets, the skies, the buildings and the port, engaging all who see it in a powerful, immersive experience.

Yokohama Monogatari (A Tale of Yokohama)Admission-charged venue

Travel back in time, to the era when Japan and the Port of Yokohama were first opened to the world. A film charting the history of Yokohama is shown in a giant theater, while numerous workshops introduce customs and products that originated in Yokohama.

ENEOS Evening PicnicAdmission-charged venue

When the sun goes down, Yokohama is transformed into an Evening Picnic, a fantastic world of light and shadow to enchant couples, families, and groups of friends.

Kurofune (Black Ship) RestaurantAdmission-charged venue

A food court featuring menus and atmosphere that evoke the days when the country and the port were first opened to the world.

ENEOS Energy Future PavilionAdmission-charged venue

Nippon Oil Corporation began operations in Yokohama with the establishment of a refinery in the 1920s. In the intervening years, the company has grown apace as Yokohama has developed into a major international city.
Based on the theme of ‘vital energy resources and our planet,’ the ENEOS Energy Future Pavilion introduces the extensive array of initiatives implemented by Nippon Oil Corporation in the interest of conservation of energy resources and preservation of our natural environment .

Divided into a trio of exhibit zones with ‘Ocean, ‘City,’ and ‘Forest’ motifs, and an experimental theater area based on the image of a “Forest School,” the pavilion features a variety of informative panels and models, artwork created from oil cans, and a commemorative photo area.

Exhibits include rarely seen bituminous ‘oil rocks’and oil sand.

A variety of hands-on experiments and demonstrations enable visitors to experience various aspects of energy production. A series of performances with special guests are planned for the summer vacation period.

Futuristic Theater BATONAdmission-charged venue

Nouvelle SF Fantasy


Set in the not-so-distant future, an era of space travel and trans-planetary migration, the story starts on the planet Abel. A science-fiction fantasy, BATON makes its world debut in three chapters, emphasizing the bonds between the past, the present, and the future. The first animated feature scripted and produced by Shunji Iwai, BATON is directed by Ryuhei Kitamura of Azumi fame.

Earth Balloon HOMEAdmission-charged venue

Let’s think about the future of our planet!

A giant ‘earth balloon', approx. 20 meters in diameter, floats in the night sky above Yokohama, reflecting a dynamic display of light, sound and visuals. This presentation highlighting global environmental issues is directed by astronaut Chiaki Mukai.

3. NISSAN Y150 Dream Front & Super Hi-Vision Theater (Shinko Pier)

Based on the theme, “Experience the future and imagination through the eyes of a child," this rich interactive program enables children to learn about leading-edge corporate technologies and initiatives while they play.

Aiming to expand caring environmental activities on a worldwide scale, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. sponsors an interactive pavilion focusing on the theme of children and the environment. Numerous hands-on learn-as-you-play installations provide information about advanced technologies and environmental initiatives.

Super Hi-Vision TheaterAdmission-charged venue

A one-of-a-kind 154-inch high-definition screen displays ultrahigh-definition visuals with dimensional sound. Researched and developed by Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), Super Hi-Vision creates a dramatic visual world that rivals reality.

A bazaar zone features local products from countries that have a connection to "Open Country, Open Port". A special limited-duration "The Silk Road to Yokohama" exhibit and other activities focus on a theme of international and inter-city exchange. The official Tanemaru store is also located here.

NPOs, NGOs and other citizens' groups come together to present a wealth of citizen participation programs including the Bayside Citizens' Cooperative and the Yokohama FUNE Project.

6. Zou-no-Hana (Elephant’s Trunk) Site (from June 2)

Kurofune Trick Art/Beacon ArtFree admission venue

An art park where black ships created by world-class tick artist Kurt Wenner appear to float in 3D and works submitted by youthful artists on the theme of "a beacon lighting the future of Yokohama" (directed by Katsuhiko Hibino) will be on display.

7. Yamashita Park Site

A side-wheel steamship similar to Commodore Perry's flagship is brought to life. In addition to a variety of events evoking the period between the arrival of the black ships and the opening of the country, a triathlon and a dragon boat race are also planned for the Yamashita Park site.
